About ICQE 2027

ICQE 2027 brings together researchers, funders, technologists, and institution-builders working at the frontier where quantum science, materials engineering, and nuclear phenomena meet. Hosted at MIT, the conference will explore an emerging vision of nuclear quantum engineering: the idea that nuclear processes may not only be studied as isolated reactions, but potentially shaped, enhanced, or controlled through carefully designed quantum environments, materials, fields, and many-body interactions. By connecting theory, experiment, computation, instrumentation, and field-building, ICQE aims to define the scientific foundations, practical opportunities, and responsible pathways for a new generation of nuclear quantum technologies.

Past Conferences

ICQE 2025

ICQE 2025 brought the conference to Europe for its second edition, hosted by the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Padua. The program focused on how quantum science and technology can contribute to urgent energy challenges, from the materials needed for the net-zero transition to the growing energy cost of information technologies.

The conference was organized around three broad themes: the energy advantage and cost of quantum technologies; quantum effects in energy processes and materials; and theoretical and experimental methods for studying quantum effects in energy systems. It also included a focus session on quantum computing and simulation for energy management, alongside topics such as quantum thermodynamics, energy storage, charge and exciton transport, photochemistry, quantum chemistry, and ultrafast spectroscopy.

ICQE 2023

The inaugural ICQE 2023 took place in Melbourne, Australia, hosted by CSIRO. The conference established ICQE as a forum for exploring how quantum science and technology could contribute to future energy systems, bringing together researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers across physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, and energy.

The program focused on quantum approaches to energy harvesting, conversion, storage, and transport, while also asking how quantum technologies might contribute to broader global energy challenges.

About the ICQE Series

The International Conference on Quantum Energy is a biennial scientific conference focused on the role of quantum science and technology in addressing global energy challenges. The series brings together researchers, industry, and policymakers across physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, computation, and energy systems.

Across its editions, the series has created a space for cross-disciplinary and cross-sector conversations: how quantum technologies might contribute to future energy systems, and how questions of energy, sustainability, and real-world deployment should shape the future of quantum technologies themselves.
